“Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy.” Psalm 33:3
Music has always been an integral part of worship. Over and over again, the Psalms exhort us to sing. It is difficult to imagine a worship service without music. God employed singers and musicians for worship in the Old Testament. He continues to ask this of us. Serving in a liturgical context, the music ministry at Christ Community Church seeks to serve the liturgy and respond to God’s Word appropriately, joyfully, and reverently. As we are situated in an historical and ecclesiastical context, we understand that we have a heritage and traditions to honor. It is not uncommon for us to sing hymns from such a heritage from a pew hymnal. Likewise, we are instructed to sing a new song unto the Lord. Contemporary (and not-so-contemporary) worship songs are also sung. Many musicians from within CCC have also composed original congregational worship songs. In 2013, CCC began exploring the discipline of singing the Psalms. The intention has always been to draw from the rich springs of church history while contributing to the life of Christ’s Church today.
Interested in Joining the Worship Team?
We are always interested in who God brings to Christ Community Church and the worship team. Many creative folks have stepped up to offer their musical gifts to God and to our community through this ministry. Whether you play an instrument or “just sing,” all interested individuals are encouraged to talk to Ben Williams. Periodically, we will call for musicians. All interested musicians must fill out an application and are required to read the worship team handbook to apply. Informal auditions will be scheduled to determine skill level.Download Handbook Download Application
